Project Overview

This project features a powerful 34.43 kWp Solar PV system, designed to provide reliable and sustainable energy for a new build residential property in Milnathort. With access to six acres of land on the site of their new property, the homeowner was keen to utilise the large space available and maximise the solar generation opportunities of the system. The main driving force behind this substantial system was to enhance the sustainability of the new build and the overall goal of achieving energy independence. Backup power was also important to our client to ensure an uninterrupted power supply in the event of a grid outage.

Founded in 1979 in Moray, AES Solar quickly established itself within the growing solar power market. Today it is one of the oldest manufacturers of solar thermal collectors in Western Europe. With over four decades of industry experience, it now offers Solar PV and battery storage solutions alongside its solar thermal panel, the AES Luminary. The company’s dedication to excellence and environmental stewardship has earned it national recognition, including The Queen’s Awards for Enterprise in Sustainable Development.

Project Overview

In a landmark project demonstrating public sector leadership in the transition to a zero-carbon economy, Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council (RCBC) partnered with Decerna to implement a comprehensive decarbonisation project across seven community buildings. The project, funded through the SALIX Public Sector Decarbonisation Scheme, strategically combined solar photovoltaic installations with heat pump technology to accelerate the region’s journey towards net zero.

Decerna managed the entire project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies through to commissioning. The installation encompassed 300 kWp of solar PV systems and heat pumps across three buildings, making it one of the region’s most significant public sector renewable energy deployments.

Decerna specialises in delivering, unlocking, and advancing the low-carbon economy through innovative renewable energy solutions and comprehensive project management services.

Transitioning from the British Army to a career in Solar Engineering Services

2DK successfully built a world-class field services team by strategically recruiting and developing ex-military personnel. Their initial hire, Anthony Davidson, demonstrated the value of this approach, excelling in his role and contributing to the recruitment of two more former Army operatives. Under Anthony’s leadership, the team has achieved exceptional results, including significantly increased testing volumes, expanded service offerings, and solidified 2DK’s position as a market leader in advanced inspection and testing services. Recognizing the team’s potential, 2DK has invested heavily in their professional growth, providing advanced training and certifications to enhance their skills and career paths.

2DegreesKelvin (2DK) is a solar engineering company, specialising project life-cycle services and solutions in the utility scale solar industry. They offer a range of boutique consultancy, advanced inspection & testing services, and have become one of the leading specialists in the space to engineer and implement revamp and repower projects.

An initiative by Solar Energy UK

The Solar Careers Programme is a key initiative in the UK Government/Industry Roadmap, aimed at delivering 70GW of solar energy by 2035. This initiative focuses on promoting career opportunities, supporting recruitment, and enhancing skills in the solar and energy storage workforce.

Project Overview

The Forest Gate solar farm in North Wiltshire, UK, is a 49.9 MW project with battery storage, developed by Eden Renewables and approved in March 2023. Notably, up to 20% of the solar farm will be owned by the local community. This community ownership model arose from collaboration between Eden Renewables and Zero Chippenham, a local climate action group. Zero Chippenham, with support from Bath & West Community Energy, established Zero North Wiltshire, a Community Benefit Society, to manage community ownership.

This initiative aims to generate significant community benefits, estimated at £5 million, and contribute to local initiatives to reduce fuel poverty and carbon emissions. The project demonstrates a successful model for community involvement in renewable energy development, with the potential for replication across the UK.

Since 2010, the Eden Renewables team has led the industry with renewable energy and storage projects with a positive impact on the local environment and the communities that host them. Based at offices in Wiltshire and London, Eden’s UK team is working on several utility-scale onshore wind, solar and storage projects; commercial and industrial projects such as solar rooftops, EV charging and solar carports; and standalone battery storage.

The company is committed to an ethical, transparent, environmentally-sustainable supply chain and we are a signatory to the industry’s supply chain statement supporting the Solar Stewardship Initiative that was launched in December 2023.
